General Attack Advice
(to be updated soon)
For commanders, a good idea is to build your primary attack commander in the last available slot.
For event attacks, morale (determined by decoration bonus) is equal to the attack power/strength of a unit.

Combat strength of your soldiers can be increased by equipment and attack tools.

What beats what?
Have you ever wondered how to determine which soldiers you should send? Let's breakdown a couple of defense soldiers stats and show you how to use them to your advantage.
Here are two examples of soldiers you will be attacking, one melee and one ranged. From these two pictures, we have everything we need to know in order to determine which type of soldiers to send. Lets break down the symbols first and learn what they represent.
Now that you know how to read a soldiers stats, you can now determine what type of soldier is best to use against any defense soldier. From the stats shown for the Vet Spearman and Vet Bowman, we can determine that the spearman is weak against ranged attackers and that the bowman is weak against melee attackers.
Other helpful tips
Never send defense troops on an attack! They will be killed because of their weak attack power and you will lose!
Remember, in most cases for attack troops:

Remember, in most cases for attack troops:
- Melee defeats ranged
- Ranged defeats melee
When setting up your attack:
- Always use all waves
- Put soldiers in your flanks first
- Use your spy report to decide what kind of troops and tools to use and where
- If you do not have enough troops to send a full attack use wave 1 as a martyr wave. Put a single troop in each section to wipe out the defenders tools

How to find easy honor targets

Next, click to filter the search to alliances.
Scroll all the way to the top.
Now focus on this column and scroll down...
...Until you find a small alliance with high honor.
Not every small alliance on this board will meet the requirements you are looking for. Some may be allies, some may be below your level limit, some may be members of top alliances that we should not mess with (always read their description). But this method is very useful for finding high honor targets in small alliances. Smaller alliances = less support!

Attack Strategies
Sending an attack using your espionage
This strategy, though time consuming, is THE most effective method of attacking. This section is a step by step guide of how to analyze your espionage and properly set up your troops. When applied to the tool techniques learned in the previous lesson, you will be packing a punch!
Keep in mind as you look over this guide that you do not have to follow these techniques with 100% accuracy, however, the closer you stick to these methods, the more effective your attacks will be.

Left Flank analysis and set-up
Analysis of the information
Soldiers
First you should write down the amount of each type of troop.
For the tool analysis, use the strategies listed on our tool guide page.
First you should write down the amount of each type of troop.
- We see that the target has 33 melee and 22 ranged in this flank.
- Now calculate the percentage from those totals. 55 total troops with 33 melee... that's 33/55 which equals 0.6 or 60%.
- We can send a possible 52 troops on each wave, so we multiply 52 by 0.6 (that we just calculated) and we get 31.2.
- Now you know to send 31 ranged attackers on each flank in order to counter his melee defenders.
- The remaining slots should be filled with melee attackers
For the tool analysis, use the strategies listed on our tool guide page.
* Wave 1 should have had a 31/21 ranged/melee ratio.

Again, first, write down the amount of each type of troop.

Again, first, write down the amount of each type of troop.
- We see that the target has 17 melee and 94 ranged here in the front.
- Now calculate the percentage from those totals. 111 total troops with only 17 melee... that's 17/111 which equals 0.15 or 15%.
- We can send a possible 156 troops on each wave, so we multiply 156 by 0.15 (that we just calculated) and we get 23.4.
- Now you know to send 24 ranged attackers on each flank in order to counter his melee defenders.
- The remaining slots should be filled with melee attackers
For the tool analysis, use the strategies listed on our tool guide page.
* Wave 1 should have had a 24/132 ranged/melee ratio like you see in the other 3 waves.

Soldiers
Write down the amount of each type of troop.
For the tool analysis, use the strategies listed on our tool guide page.
Write down the amount of each type of troop.
- We see that the target has 8 melee and 47 ranged in this flank.
- Now calculate the percentage from those totals. 55 total troops with 8 melee... that's 8/55 which equals 0.15 or 15%.
- We can send a possible 52 troops on each wave, so we multiply 52 by 0.15 (that we just calculated) and we get 7.8.
- Now you know to send 8 ranged attackers on each flank in order to counter his melee defenders.
- The remaining slots should be filled with melee attackers
For the tool analysis, use the strategies listed on our tool guide page.
* Like the previous two sections, the first wave should have an 8/44 ranged/melee ratio.
Sending a good commander
The final step before launching your attack is choosing the correct commander to fit your attack.
Since my attack is melee heavy, I want to use a commander that will add a greater melee soldier combat bonus. From the attack set-up screen, you can actually click on the commander icon and move your equipment around if you are not happy with your available options. |

Attacking without an espionage
Sometimes, it just seems nearly impossible to be able to get an accurate espionage on your target. Many times, when attacking higher levels, when at war, or sending group attacks you have no choice but to send a "blind attack".
When attacking without an espionage, you will want to send an attack that is prepared for just about any defense set-up. The best way to do this is to set your soldiers up in a 50/50% ratio on all waves and sections. For tools, you will want to send an excessive amount in order to cover for any possible defense bonuses you may encounter with your target.
From the images below, you can see an example of how to set-up your attack without any help from an espionage. Keep in mind that there is never a guarantee that blind attacks will be effective or even win, no matter how you set them up. If possible, ALWAYS use an espionage to send an attack.

The mantlet Strategy
One very effective attacking strategy is to go mantlets/ cast iron mantlets with all ranged attackers in your first wave. For wave two, set up all melee attackers with scaling ladders/ siege towers and so on for the next waves.
The mantlets in wave one completely cancel out the defense of the ranged defenders, giving you the advantage. Your following waves come in and clean up what's left.
This is a good strategy to use when you have no espionage.
